The amazing Tagua journey
Your unique, hand-crafted jewellery began it's journey as a thirst quenching liquid contained in pods within a large Tagua fruit growing naturally in the Ecuadorian or Colombian rainforest. The pod was collected from the forest floor by a local co-operative and dried. The liquid it contained congealed to a sweet edible gelatine before fully hardening, after a month or so, to a substance with similar characteristics to ivory!
Coloured with fruit and vegetable juices for several hours the nuts were shaped by hand. Finally they are polished by turning in large drums containing wood pieces and other Tagua.
The beads were then shipped to independent designers in France and the UK where they were assembled into beautiful, bold, chic, varied, Fairtrade and eco-friendly Tagua jewellery that you see today in our Gallery.
