In a realm of ink and shade, a gentle giant stands displayed.
Her skin, a tapestry of lines, weaves tales in monochrome signs.
Within her form, a life anew. A slumbering calf, to the world in view.
Yet around her, absence weaves its spell. Once there were three, now only two must dwell.
The tusks that curve like sabres keen, speak of a protector, no longer seen.
At her feet, small fungi bloom. A silent homage to a hidden tomb.
No words are spoken here today. Yet the sorrows weight in the picture sway.
An elephant mother with child inside, bears a grief she cannot hide.
So stand they still within this frame, a family cloaked in joy and pain.
Art captures, both death and birth. The cycle vast of life on Earth.
An original permanent ink drawing on art paper by Umair Zia emotionally draws on a pregnant elephant mourning the loss of the calf’s father.
